What Change Do You Want to Create?
At this time of year we naturally tend to think of our yesterdays and tomorrows, looking back with nostalgia and forward with anticipation.
If dementia is part of your life, this process of reconciling and planning might be particularly bittersweet or unsettling.
Perhaps you know something isn’t right — wrestling with a mind that betrays you occasionally — but you keep your head held high.
Perhaps you’ve been diagnosed with dementia, and are struggling to find the resilience and courage to march onward with optimism.
Maybe you are sharing the journey with someone else who has been diagnosed, helping in unexpected ways and at unexpected times, holding out your hand and your heart to say “I’m here, with you.”
Maybe you are grieving a loss, or struggling to regain some sense of "normal.”
Confronting the challenges of daily life with grace and gumption is not easy at the best of times, and even more so when dementia is part of our lives.
You are not alone. I see you. And I think you are remarkable.
Dementia Narratives is rooted in the belief that we can change our experience of dementia, one story at a time. Exploring the stories that we tell ourselves and others about dementia can help us find calm, compassion, meaning, and purpose in our complicated lives. Sharing your story is also a powerful catalyst for change.
On Wednesday this week I'll be sharing a post about legacy projects for life with dementia, looking at ways our stories can help change the experience of dementia and create positive legacies for ourselves and others.
In the meantime, I'd love to hear from you! Please feel free to share your comments below or, if you've received this post by email, hit reply for a personal response. ♥
